Universal Extractor 顧名思義是一款可以將幾乎所有壓縮檔解壓縮的工具。然而，Universal Extractor 最為人所稱道的是它也可以對 .exe 和 .msi 等安裝檔進行解壓縮。
Universal Extractor 的操作相當簡易和直覺，而且內建包括繁體中文在內的多國語系，在操作使用上，可說是完全不需要任何設定，就可讓使用者很快地上手。此外，這款免費軟體安裝後會整合到滑鼠右鍵選單，也就是壓縮檔可透過滑鼠右鍵的功能選單來進行解壓縮。
不過，要注意的是，Universal Extractor 並不能取代 WinRAR、Winzip、7-Zip 等壓縮程式，因為 Universal Extractor只能解壓縮，並沒有壓縮功能。
